Seedco Copperbelt regional manager Katowando Chawinga says the company has come up with innovative products and services amid climate change challenges.

Mr. Chawinga said the company has released three new products that are climate smart.

He named the three as SC 733 which is a late maturing variety and can survive in harsh weather conditions.

He said the variety has the potential to give the farmer 14 metric tons per hectare.

"The other varieties include SC 657 which is a medium maturing variety which matures after 135 days and a farmer can yield 12 metric tons per hectare and it does well in acidic soil and able to withstand drought stress.

He mentioned that another new variety by Seedco is the SC 555 which is an early maturing variety which can be grown in different environment and that it can yield 10 metric tons per hectare.

Mr. Chawinga further said that Seedco has also come up with other climate smart innovation such the online shop which enables the farmers purchase products online and Mercury expresses is able to deliver on the farmer’s door step.

He also said Seedco is the only seed company that has an application that guides a farmer on different agronomy topics.

He explained that the app gives various farming information on product that is purchased from Seedco, information such as how to apply fertilizer.
