The Anti- Corruption Commission Zambia (ACC) calls on the nation’s youth to take a leading role in addressing corruption and climate change during the 3rd annual Junior Farmers Agriculture Show, held at Lusaka Showgrounds on Friday, 11 October, 2024.
The show, themed "Harnessing the Power of the Young Generation: The Future We Want," brought together young learners, farmers, and various stakeholders.
In her address, Mrs. Queen Chibwe, Assistant Director of Public Education Department at ACC, spoke on behalf of the Acting Director-General, Mrs. Monica Chipanta Mwansa. She highlighted the critical role the youth play in fighting corruption, especially in sectors like agriculture.
"The future we want is one where our agriculture sector thrives, supported by fairness, transparency, and accountability. Corruption remains one of the greatest threats to achieving these goals," She said.
Mrs Chibwe emphasized the importance of young people's involvement in combating corruption, citing initiatives such as anti-corruption clubs and the integration of anti-corruption content in school curricula as testament of the Commissions commitment to incorporate young people in the fight against corruption. She urged the youth to be champions of integrity.
"Your energy, innovation, and fresh perspectives are essential in fighting corruption. The duty of the youth is to challenge corruption," She added.
And The event’s Guest of Honor, Mr. Ian Miyoba, Lusaka District Education Board Secretary (DEBS), represented by Mr. Anderson Katete, Education Standards Officer, underscored the importance of sustainable agriculture and the role of youth in tackling climate change.
"Climate-smart technologies and modern farming practices are vital as climate change continues to affect food production and agribusinesses. The Junior Farmers Agriculture Show offers young learners a platform to explore these innovations," He said.
The Junior Farmers Agricultural Show aims to educate children about sustainable farming, financial literacy, and the latest agricultural technologies, providing a platform for schools to compete in an Agri-School Competition.
The event successfully blended education, integrity, and sustainable farming, inspiring the next generation to lead Zambia into a prosperous, corruption-free future.
